how does a power inverter work in my vehicle?

I want to install a power inverter in my car i know it hooks up directly to my battery. Here are my questions, 1) how many amps will it draw if im using 1500 watts, about 15 minutes per hour of drive time? 2) will i need to upgrade my alternator? 3) will the life of my battery be shortened? 4)should the car be running or just on the on position for the first 15 minutes prior to starting? I run one in my Motor Home with two deep cycle batteries. It will give about an hour and a half running a TV, satellite receiver and sound system. Those batteries have a lot more capacity than your car battery. Run it for 15 minutes without the engine running, with any appreciable load, and you may just have to walk home. At full load it'll draw 15 amps or better from your battery.

Also is it usual for a mechanic to charge you twice as much for a part then what the dealer sels it? And also how long would it take to replace the fuel pump? I think I got way over charged.

That fuel pump is in the tank and the only way to get it is to drop the tank. Now while the dealer may charge you half as much for the part, it's standard practice to mark up parts oat most shops. That being said, some shops do overcharge. You didn't say how much you paid but I would expect to pay somewhere close to $500 for that job. It's too bad you didn't know about the recall on those, the dealer might have done it for free.

How to Replace a Fuel Pump : Removing Fuel Pump From Fuel Tank



Can the fuel pump on a 2001 Alero cause the fuel gauge to malfuction?

My wife had a quarter tank of fuel according to the gauge, when the car ran out of gas. The mechanic said the fuel pump needs replaced since that is where the sensor is. This si a $700 repair, and he advised that the car will still run without replacing th efuel pump. The gauge just isn't trustworthy. My thoughts are 1) If fuel pump is failing, car won't run for long. 2) Does he know what he is talking about or is he trying to sell me a pump I don't need? 3) Will an error code scan, tell us anything more about the fuel delivery system?

If there was still gas in the tank, and the fuel pump is weak the car would stop running as if the car was out of gas.
There is also the chance that when the tank has more gas in it that the pump can overcome a plugged fuel filter.
Another thing that can happen if that the in tank filter has become blocked, causing the pump to fail.
But if the sender in the tank fails most of the time the gage will read empty. But if the Gage in the dash fails, it may become stuck at any reading.
The punch line is this, try replacing the filter first. If you do you may get another couple of years out of that pump.
If you decide to replace the pump, make sure that all of the filters are also replaced. If you don't it void any warranty on the pump and I hate to pay for labor twice.

I want to install Ford Racing fuel injectors on my 1995 Mustang GT. Will they destroy the engine if I do?

I guess what I'm asking if is they are like NOS, and they wear out the engine faster. I know they produce some amount of upgraded horsepower, because I'm also thinking of a chip from SLR Motorsports. The injectors are 42 lbs, so will they benefit and not wear down the engine??

By themselves, all those 42# injectors will do is make your engine run rich, decreasing performance and causing the PCM to throw (a) code(s). You don't mention what other mods you've done, but if you're going to increase fuel delivery, you need to increase airflow/pressure to match. An upgraded intake kit will help, but you're going to need a pressurized system (turbo or supercharger) to get enough air to really match those injectors. This is why supercharger kits generally include a chip, injectors, new rails and/or regulators, manifold (Roots style) etc.

First things first: Have you done the exhaust? Flowmaster, Magnaflow and others make a great cat-back kit for your model for around $450 that can add 10 HP or so. Have you upgraded the Intake? K&N and others make freer-flowing kits for $250 that can add another 5. Your SLR chip is good for another 10 HP or so, based on their own dyno charts - don't buy the "25% increase" hype. A $400 NOS kit, properly installed and used with good judgment, can net you 30 HP (or a quick trip to the wrecking yard if you don't know what you're doing, especially on an aging engine). In some ways, a NOS "wet" system is actually easier on your engine than a supercharger, since NOS cools the charge rather than heating it through compression.

What could be wrong my car wont start I hear the starter motor but the engine is not cranking or nothing.?

Fans come on and the dash lights and headlights come on. I dont know what could be the problem I had my starter and battery check today they said my starter is good.
