Pilot Gps Training
Military pilots/aviators can you answer this question?
This has been on my mind all week.
Do fighter jets and helicopters have a special device like a GPS??
Like if a Naval aviator and an Airforce pilot are in the air, how does the NAVAL aviator know that a 'friendly' is approaching him? is there some kind of technology that makes him conform this on his radar or does he just have to trust that the Airforce pilot is not lying on the radio??? (thats alot of trust if you ask me)
Does the Coast Guard, NAVY, Army and Airfocre pilots have special flight codes that they use in conversations? and if so how does everyone memorize them?
Also, the NAVY, Marines and Airforce are the only branches with fighter jets; Do they help out and participate with one another or is there a sought of mild rivalry since all branches are well trained and not dependent on one another??
Yes. There are several ways. You have airborne command centers that keep aloft pilots abreast of all friendly and enemy planes in the area. Planes are also equipped with IFF (identify friend or foe) devices that basically ping each other to confirm friendly status. The signals an these devices are encrypted and the challenge and password changes regularly. The same technology is used by ground air defense to confirm that aircraft are friendly or enemy prior to engaging one.
All branches support one another. All planes in an area of operation fall under a Joint Air Command Center and are tasked based on purpose. On any given day you will find Navy ground attack Aircraft supporting Army troops on the ground and Marine Corps jets being guided on attack missions by Air Force JTAC/TACP personnel....
In reality the services remain separate in name only. We are really a joint force.

Reporting to next command upon A-School Graduation? (Navy)?
Ok here's the story. My fiance is in florida for A-School. He has his own car. He's in Pensacola, and trying to get orders back here to VA. What's the liklihood that he'll be able to leave upon graduation day versus being put on hold (if being put on hold at all)? Do people get put on hold if they need a flight to their next command? One of his classmates is on hold there, trying to go to Virginia as well, but doesn't have a means of transportation.
The detailer is on leave so we are just trying to get a rough idea
If he has the authority to have his own vehicle there, then yes they will allow him to drive to that location. The only time they fly there is if they do not have their own transportation. They will then give him mileage (MALT) and Per diem to get there. MALT is $.24 per mile a limit of 350 miles per day and per diem is $109 for AD members. If he does the drive from Pcola to Virginia in one day and reports, then he will only get 350 miles of MALT and 1 day of Per Diem. So he should do the route the proper way and not rush there.
Now if he can leave right afterwards is the question, sometimes they can be required to stay there on Temporary duty until their orders allow them to report. It might have to wait until after the new fiscal year starts which is October 1st. They will remain there until they are allowed to leave. If he doesn't have his orders yet there is no guarantee that he will get Virginia he can get any other place.

VFR into IFR?
I was wondering what the procedures would be if a pilot (not IFR certified) would be happening to fly to an airport that is under IFR. Would the pilot have to turn back and find an airport that is under VFR?
A VFR-only pilot is not permitted to plan a flight to an airport that is expected to be under IFR conditions at the time of arrival.
If a pilot plans a flight, not expecting IFR conditions, and IFR conditions develop unexpectedly during the flight, it is the pilot's responsibility to avoid flying into instrument meterological conditions (IMC), usually by altering course (up to and including turning 180 degrees) and either returning to the airport of origin or landing at an alternate airport where conditions are VFR.
It is a violation of the FARs to continue into IMC intentionally.

Loggin Second-In-Command time in a single pilot approved aircraft (Jet powered)?
I know that you can only log SIC time if the airplane requires 2 crewmembers when flying non-domestic. However I'm flying a VLJ that is certified for single pilot operations, and I'm wondering if there's times where I can log SIC time, like under IFR conditions or flying in other airspaces than US airspace. I am type rated for SIC privileges in the said aircraft.
how about for a part 91 international operation ?
If you are flying under part 135 you can log SIC because IFR under part 135 almost always requires two crew members by the 135 certificate. You can also log SIC if the other pilot is under simulated instrument conditions and he is serving as PIC.
