I was recently on a charter holiday flight...?
I was on a charter holiday flight recently and was ALLOWED to go up to the flight deck and see the pilot and 1'st officer while the plane was IN THE AIR.
I thought this was strictly disallowed after the events of 9/11!
Why did they allow me to go and visit. Is it because of my age (I'm 116) or was I just a lucky one?
Probably not relevant but the flight was from a quiet airport in the UK to Spain
I'm obviously not 116, i'm 16 lol
Although it's not permitted the Captain and his co-pilot obviously thought that a frail man of 116 years old deserved one last treat before departing this earth.

Pre-need cost of a private charter air carrier to transport my mother's body from CA to FL for burial.?
I don't expect to have to need for a funeral for at least 8 to 10 years. I'm just trying to work out a budget to save for.
I have no idea what a private charter air carrier would charge to transport a casket from Calif to Fla. But I do know that major airlines like American Airlines transports caskets and they would be ALOT cheaper then a private charter. Call the major carriers in your area and ask them. Then you'll have to pay for the funeral home in each state to transport her to and from the airport.

Where to look for air taxi jobs in the caribbean or hawaii or other places where charter planes are common?
I'm just talking about small planes here no bigger than a light twin. What would I need other than a commercial license? Where is the best website or place I can find a job like that?
You'll need a minimum of 500 hours so you can qualify for pilot-in-command in air taxi operations. There are next to no jobs available as a copilot in the Air Taxi business, so 500 hours is a bare minimum requirement. A minimum of 1,000 hours is preferred for insurance requirements, as well as flight time in the specific aircraft flown by a particular organization. While such jobs are advertised in various places (there are numberous job boards such as http://www.willflyforfood.com/) most hiring actually occurs either word of mouth (i.e. knowing someone already employed at an air taxi operation) or being physically on the spot at the right time with the right qualifications.
Having worked the Air Taxi business in Alaska for 8 years and having been on the hiring end for a couple of those years, I can say with authority that 95% of resumes ended up going straight to the trash without consideration. A resume hand carried to the chief pilot by an employee was always given consideration. Next to that, someone applying in person always got some attention. The only resumes mailed in that received any consideration at all were from people with a very significant amount of previous experience working for a similar operation. Other than that, either knowing someone or showing up in person with a decent set of qualifications during "hiring season" was the best way to get a job.

Does anybody know the ins and outs of buying a holiday from a charter airline on the day at the airport?
Looking to just turn up to the airport (gatwick-london most likely) and go to the sales desk and ask what's available. has anybody done this before and can give me any advice on doing this?

What is wrong with my David Clark headset?
I have a brand new David Clark 10-76 headset. I also have a brand new military to general aviation adapter. I can hear fine at talk to other people in the plane fine, but when I contact tower, ground, or a unicom frequency, I hear a high pitched sound being emitted. What might be the problem? Thanks in advance.
Yes I have tried it on many planes, old as one from the 70's (ish) and as new as a skyhawk from 2008.
That's the problem with using military headsets on general aviation aircraft. You have an impedance mismatch. Military aircraft use low-impedance mics (5 ohms) and speakers (10 ohms) and GA aircraft use higher-impediance mics (50 ohms) and speakers (150 ohms). There is a conversion kit that replaces the mic and has the adapter cable to use this headset in a GA application.

Types of aviation headsets?
Hi, somebody could tell me what means PNR (Passive Noise reduction) ANR (Active Noise Reduction) ENC (Electronic Noise Canceling)??? what headset is more comfortable??? Many people uses David Clark, other uses lightspeed zulu or bose.

Comfort is defined by the wearer. Everyone's head and ears are different. You need to find a place you can try on some headsets before you buy.
Passive Noise Reduction refers to mechanical systems such as rubber seals to keep cockpit noise from reaching your ears. Active Noise Reduction and Electronic Noise Canceling are the same thing: Electronic circuits which sample the cockpit noise and feed it back to your ears with the phase inverted so that it cancels out the cockpit noise. High-end headsets from Telex go one step further and add digital signal processing that further suppresses background noise.
The result of ANR is an additional 20 or 30 db of noise cancellation over passive-only headsets. This saves your hearing and makes for a more comfortable ride.
Generally you should almost always buy an ANR headset these days, and you should spend as much as you can afford. The absolute best noise reduction is the Telex Stratus 50D, which combines passive and active noise reduction to give you over 50 db of noise suppression. One of the more comfortable but less effective expensive headsets is the Bose X. They are lightweight and reasonably effective in canceling noise. But you can get the same noise canceling at half the price from other vendors.
