VHF signal boost?

I am attempting to boost the transmission signal of a marine VHF unit that has been set up to operate as a base unit. The antenna is mounted on the roof of 60 ft tall building, but transmission range is only about 10 miles.The radio has a max power of 25W, the antenna is 9dB, 1/2 wave, I am using more than 150 ft. of Rg u8 coax cable. Any suggestions?

Is it possible to custom make your own radio?

Is it possible to custom make your own radio? Like a home made Computer. All the new radios that Sony comes out with have CD players and Cassette decks. Were do you buy Cassette? I think Sony is thinking backwards instead of thinking forward. They should have a boombox with Hi-Md, MS, Memory Stick Micro, Memory Stick Duo options with usb connections instead thinking cd cassette boomboxes.

Who would want to use the stupid proprietary memory stick?

Anyway, if you want to make your own radio you can buy the components at your local electronics store and make it yourself. You can even make an AM radio that doesn't need any batteries or connection to the wall.

Though it sounds like what you want is to buy a tuner, amp, etc and then stick them together in which case you might want to look at what better companies to Sony have to offer.

How can I eliminate radio birdies in my 10 meter htx-10 tranceiver?

At various frequencies on the 10 meter band, my radio has birdie noises that make it impossible to use in those locations. Is there any way to get the noises out?

The htx10 is rather low budget transceiver so theres usually not much can be done about design faults that cause birdies.

The best option is , sell it.

What is the typical range of 50mhz band? I mean can you achieve intercontinental contacts or is closer to line of sight? Thanx.

Six Meters is called the Magic Band for a reason!

Band conditions on 6 are flaky, sun spots are weak, band is dead, on a good day, statewide is the norm.

A 6 element yagi at 120 feet and 1kw will work wonders.

Kenwood made a 6/10/15 rig years ago, but with the cost so close to the 6 - 160M radios, few were sold.

would like to be able to plug into mobile unit antennea so it would double as a hand held or mobile--is that feasible??

I have an Icom IC-V8 for 2 meters and an Icom IC-U82 for 440. Typically, 2 meters is more popular than 440, although in some areas 440 is very popular.

I use mine with a mobile and base antenna. The V8 is inexpensive, and easy to use. A good single-band HT for beginners.

is it possible to pick up private, licensed use only frequencies with a standard two-way walkie-talkie?

My friends and I often use hand held transceivers to communicate as we all live in the same general area. We've used the same channel for approximately 6 months, but today, after turning the transceiver on, I picked up some random fuzzy chatter. A man then instructed that I change channels, as it was a licensed use only frequency. I've used two-way radios for over a decade and I've never of license only channels on standard, low band walkie-talkie frequencies.

Depends on the standard, if they are standards approved for the area they are used in, then there are several channels under the license they are covered by, and nobody has any more right to a particular channel than anyone else.

If they do not have appropriate approval, such as EU specification PMR446 equipment used in the USA, then they may conflict with other allocations.

Not sure of "low band", unless it's 27MHz (CB), where some models extend to the 28MHz licenced amateur radio band.
